35 weeks update

We had our baby sprinkle for Bae on August 23. I’m still working on gathering and editing the pics for that, so post about that will be forthcoming. Also figured out that the problem with inviting everyone electronically is that now I have a whole bunch of thank you cards to send out and very few actual addresses.

At my almost 32 week check-up I had a quick ultrasound and we can officially confirm that Bae is indeed head down. Which I could have told the midwife from the fact that I’m feeling hiccups almost into my pelvis. But the visual confirmation was nice. Also got a confirmation that he is most certainly a boy.

A week ago Tuesday (at 33 weeks) I flew to Charleston, SC for a full team meeting. While I missed my guys, I have to say it was nice to be alone with Bae for a bit. Even with all of the work stuff happening, I took it easy and got lots of rest. I asked the hotel for extra pillows and made a nest in the bed.

It was pretty nice not to have anyone else in bed with me for a change. I even got to go swimming for a little bit one day. And flying wasn’t that bad. I had a note from the birthing center saying that I was clear to travel, but no one even questioned me. I made sure to wear compression socks (they suck!) and drink lots of water. Bae either really loved or really hated the landings, for as soon as the plane would start to descend he would become crazy active.

Too bad the trip ended on a negative note: on the way out of the long-term parking spot, I managed to turn the front passenger side wheel well and bumper of my car right into the corner of a post. Immediately burst into tears when it happened. So my car is at the car doctor and I’m driving a rental this week. It’s the second inanimate object I’ve hit with my car less than four months. Pregnancy brain? Poor car isn’t even 2 yet.

Now that the trip is finished I feel like it’s finally time to get ready for Bae’s arrival. We have all of the big items we need except for a dresser (new twin bed came last week so Little Prince can start sleeping on it and not feel like the baby kicked him out of our bed and my dad got us enough of a credit with the diaper service to last almost 3 full months!). Hopefully we can get that soon. I’ve started making lists of everything that has to be done and due dates for them. I also found my packing list for when LP was born and have modified it.

LP had his sibling class at the birthing center last weekend. Not sure if it was super helpful, but he seemed to enjoy it. The most important part for me was a reminder to talk with LP about what the plans were when I went into labor. I’ve been talking to all of my support people, but hadn’t informed him yet. I figure we’ll have a conversation about it every few weeks to keep it fresh. I’ve also started wondering if I want to keep him out of daycare for a few days post-baby for bonding time or if that would be too chaotic. I’ll have family in town to help. I guess we’ll play it by ear, depending on when Bae comes.

Bae has been super active lately. He doesn’t jab like LP did, but he likes to roll and slowly stretch up into a place (often my right rib) until he can’t go any further. I notice his activity the most after LP goes to sleep, but that’s probably because the house is quieter and I can focus more on me, instead of work or family.

Had a midwife appointment on Monday. We’ve now scheduled out all of my appointments through October 26. I’m measuring exactly on track and up to 172lbs, which is a good weight gain, and my heart rate is good. Got to learn how to feel the top of my uterus, which was cool (there was a student midwife in the room with us so we both learned). Bae’s heartbeat was 120 something, nice and strong. He is still certainly head down and still isn’t a fan of the dopplar. Talked to them again about the wicked SPD that I’m having, but I’m doing everything I can for it (support belt, chiropractor, etc), so there’s not much else I can do other than have this baby (which better not happen for another 5 weeks!).

I hit 8 months and feel so much bigger.
