Sprinkle

We had a Sprinkle for Bae back on August 23. In keeping with the baby announcement, we had a retro video game theme.

KR and Ms. B were awesome and helped me plan everything. When Darius and I went to birthing class the day before the Sprinkle, KR took Little Prince grocery shopping and they made construction paper rings together.

KR also found some great retro decorations and plates and had a brilliant idea to make video game looking mushrooms out of strawberries.

The Sprinkle itself went very well. There was a good mix of friends and it wasn’t an overwhelmingly huge group. There were a few people who I was hoping would make it, who had to cancel at the last minute. At one point we sent all the kids outside (even though it was probably 90something degrees out) and they got to run around for a while until they were all hot and sweaty and had to come inside. But at least it gave us time for some adult talk, although I think we mostly talked about the kids. The food was really awesome. We had lots of snack food and fruit salad and Ms. B and her husband brought little sandwiches and a yummy pasta salad.

Then it was time for the cake that I made.

Then it was time for presents. We got a few things off of our registry, which was nice and some gift cards which was also really nice. We also got another baby sized Jayne hat, which LP promptly tried on and proved that it fit. Which tells you two things about our family: 1. our friends know how much we all love Firefly and 2. That we really do have small heads around here.

Another baby, another Jayne hat. DJ proves that small heads run in the family.

I was also smart this time and set up the well-wishes candles as a table station, so it didn’t stop the whole party to do an activity. I also made it very clear that the candles were for taking home. And I made sure to get unscented ones this time. :)

All in all, I think the whole thing was a great success. We got together with our friends and were able to celebrate the coming addition to our family.
