The Hobbit

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He was a professor of Anglo-Saxonh at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College, but he is best known as the creator of Middle-earth and the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Bilbo Baggins was a peaceful hobbit, but Gandalf the wizard stirred up his comfortable life. On his adventures, Bilbo wound up facing evil orcs, giant spiders, and the terrible dragon Smaug!

Cat read this book with her fifth grade reading class, and even did a mobile of the characters, which has probably now been eaten by her closet, a fate similar to that of many old projects.

the Wardobe

C.S. Lewis was an Oxford professor who wrote The Chronicles of Narnia.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the adventure of four siblings who find access to the magical world of Narnia through a Wardrobe in their uncle's house. In Narnia they meet all kinds of fantastical woodland creatures and help to free Narnia from the spell of the White Witch.

This was one of the first young adult fantasy books that Athene read. She thinks that it is a wonderful story full of imagination and excitement. Her favorite character in the book is Lucy, the youngest child. Athene would also like to state that if you are new to the series, you should read this book first, and The Magician's Nephew sixth.
