Blessed Solstice

Happy Solstice, Blessed Yule, and joie to you, on this the longest night!

While our family #winterholiday of choice is the Winter Solstice, we discovered last year that giving gifts on this date is not the best idea. It keeps the kids up way past their bedtime and then they are sad when they can’t play with all the toys.

This year I had a new idea. In order to keep with the spirit of giving, on Yule we each pick a charity to donate $25 to. This is the list of charities we gave to this year:

• Little Prince – Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter
• Young Sir – Mother’s Milk Bank of Austin
• Darius – Child’s Play
• Athene – Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas
• Pawpaw – RAINN
• Grandma A – San Diego Rescue Mission

Not sure if the kids totally understood what we were doing, but hopefully as they get older, they’ll understand more.

Of course we still have plenty of gifts from us and Santa for Christmas morning.
